Structure Settlement

why stress history of soil (ex:clay) important in determining the expected settlement of a structure?

actually it’s important only with clay , as sand looses it’s bore pressure quickly.

& all u need to know then is the state of consolidation of clay post consolidated or pre consolidated.
u determine these states by entering that nice curve , probably u’ve seen it , having asked this question , & u take nice tangents ……finally a headache , computer made life much easier

for example if it was loaded with earth load & it’s removed now , then clay will bear equal amount of load w/o gaining more stresses , so as if u didn’t add anything over it.
