Lumpsum Settlement

to buy or rent a condo?

newly divorced man with 2 young kids.
Am getting a nice lump sum settlement, enough to buy a very nice home or condo.
However, my financial advisor says to just rent instead, save mortgage, condo and utility fees, and invest the lumpsum for next 3 yearss to let it grow properly.

To buy a condo is a investment later on you can rented and you can move to bigger and better house. If you rent the only one who is getting benefit is the landlord. In two year you can have equity in your own condo and then refinance if you decide to buy a condo or a house. A house in better, but I don’t know who much is your settlement . Have you ask your Financial Adviser why he is suggesting to rent rather then to buy. ask question.
